If it were up to me, the eBook would be free everywhere. I believe electronic books should be free and readers should have the choice to support the author by buying the print version.

Online publishing is a fragmented market and retailers have different rules regarding pricing. $0.99 is the minimum that some retailers permit, and $9 was the minimum for paperback print with worldwide distribution.
